TCD, I type this during my first of six weeks off, coupled with a few hours a sleep at night I feel very frigging sorry for myself.

I now have a nice chunk of metal that is a replacement for my previous hip, a massive scar and a swelling of the buttock only a Kalahari Bushman would be proud of. I feel totally useless as I can't even put my own socks on. I know though that once through this blip I will be back at it but recognising this as a blip is not something I'm very good at.

Anyway, when you are in the dark valley, have a few hours to kill and in need of inspiration have a read of this blog Nick Fener I don't personally know him although I have shared a jump plane with him whilst I was in America, he came across as an all round nice guy so I followed this with interest.

As they say, there is always blue skies somewhere, hope you felling better soon.

Try not to spend too long in bed or you will totally seize up.

I had three weeks off work and a load of physio on my lower back. Have a disc that presses on siatic nerve. Plenty of ibuprofen. Had a muscle relaxant from the docs cuz muscles were all rock hard around where damage was.

The good news is backs do get better. As long as your careful.

Good luck and stay on the ibu ( make sure you keep your stomach full or can lead to other probs).

ive slipped 2 discs and been operated on, ive been to chiro@s, osteo's etc but the best luck ive had is with sports physio's, they tend to realize as a self employed person you need to keep working so don't winge at you for not taking lots of time off and tailor the treatment accordingly. having regular good deep tissue massages helps me too

find a Mctimonty chripractor. they work with you and some use heated oils first to massage the area to get the mussels relaxed then by getting you to do certain things help to put what is out back. not a first visit fix but good.

i have had syatic nerve problems and it still tingles now and again. i found the NHS a waste of space. but the best chap i had worked on horses as well and he fixed my syatic nerve and did not come back for over 10 years. but lower back strength exercise are the key. work with someone doing light things first then build up hope your back gets better soon. not nice and bloody painful

TCD, Try Pilates.

I have a mate who was booked in for a lower back operation after 2 different specialists said it was the only option.

He decided it wasnt for him, quit the pain killers. Started on some natural pain killer muscle relaxation combo and started Pilates.

6 or so years later and he is swimming, running, cycling and even snowboarding again.

Heal quick, and remember Pilates is just not for women with incontinence problems. ;)
