Having a go at pruning fruit trees - anyone interested?

Since the planned date is next weekend, I thought I'd bump this as a reminder. Planning on the Saturday (9th) if that's OK with everyone.

I'll drop people who've expressed an interest a general PM later today, with directions, contact details etc. I've got 97 messages in my mailbox, so will have to go to email pretty quick or I'll run out of space!

Big thanks to Alec for organising this and to Mark for his commercial tips.

The day was cold but everyone there (7 of us) got lots out of it and now have a much better understanding of the processes of rejuvenation and spur pruning.

Alec- you were great in that you were so giving with your knowledge and in truth we didn't really help you much with your weekend project. Hope you were able to finish the job.

Really good to meet those of you who were able to make it, and no worries on rate of progress - some trees got done, which was all to the good, and it was never really about rushing through it. I've done a dozen or so more this afternoon and will get the rest of the dwarf ones finished tomorrow morning.

I would echo Likeitorlumpit's thanks to Mark, particularly for his masterclass on the use of string:001_smile:. There were hints and tips there which I would never have guessed at on how to get particular results from the available material and several of the trees will be noticeably different for it in a year or so.

Several people took photos, so they should appear over the next couple of days. Should be possible to run it again next year - there will be plenty of big Bramleys that will still be suitably challenging!

A very educational day, the way that you explained the theory Alec and then let us practice on your orchard was very giving of you. Thank you for the opportunity to come along.

My eyes did glaze over a couple of times when Mark got going with his detailed technical tips, although seeing the ongoing demos made a lot more sense second and third time around, thanks Mark.

Good to meet you guys & I look forward to seeing the results in a year or two.
