I would like to know why they've done it. Never really looked at it, just cursed and carried on trying to get it to seal.

Surely the production cost is greater than the tried and tested screw and thread tops that work on pretty much every liquid container on earth. A bit like re designing the wheel.

Just to edit- not sure what old tops were like, but guessing they like normal top/ caps

This subject really bugs me, ive used the new caps for nearly 6years now and had no problems with them at all, I think there great, no need for a combi spanner etc...

can't stand them. The petrol one seems to stick when you take it off. Tried swapping with another and it still does it, and the oil one is just a faffing pain. bring back the old screw type, asap. Only got them on my ms200's

They are neat and all, but my problem was the flip portion just breaking off upon closing. Or working along and seeing liquid pouring from the saw, upon further investigation the flip bar portion had popped/broken clean off.

So in 25+ years of saw operation screw caps 0.

5 years of Stihl flip caps 2 failures.

I would like to say the failures were from me manhandling or miss alining the caps, but it is just a short cycles to failure design in -10C or lower temps is my take.

My fix which stemmed from some other answers from Stihl Corp, was to start switching my fleet to Husky. :)
