The worldpay for your phone does look good but the charges are higher:

Debit MasterCard EEA, Maestro Domestic and Visa Debit/Electron will be charged at 65p. Maestro International, MasterCard (Credit, Business, Corporate, Purchasing, Signia, World, Debit Commercial International and Debit Personal International) and Visa (Credit, Business, Corporate, Purchasing, Debit Commercial International, Electron Personal International and Debit Personal International) will be charged at 3.30%.

The chip and pin card reader I have is around 20p a debit trans and 1.7% credit cards but you have to lease the machine for £20-00+vat a month.... fully portable and you have an option of different networks if the signal is weak...

But Lloyds were 35p per debit, 2.5% credit and £34-00+vat a month for leasing machine :sneaky2: which ok no prob but service shocking and card machine didn't work half the time.

I use the payleven chip and pin device with my iPad. Works a treat on 4G, and it's secure. Money is in your account within 3 days. Yes there are transaction charges, but it's no different to the service and transaction charges levied by banks on business accounts - which are charged on all types of transactions.

I,ve just been offered worldpay zinc.. £60 notes for the handset then 2.75% per transaction.. I believe you can go onto other tariff's for bigger firms but they said this way I'd only pay something when I used it.. can see the sense but not had enough requests to justify the £60 just yet

Not true

My bank doesn't charge for BACS only cheques 85pence grrr..

It's all well and good saying you pass this cost on to the customer but that would be cash in your pocket if you didn't use it.

Can't understand why people want to willingly give money to these device people.

Is it because you don't trust that the customer will pay and sleep easier with the money in your account. Is £20 or more worth it bearing in mind your profit for a £600 job may only be £200 - it's 10% of your profit= madness. Maybe I'm wrong but think about it. That money could be yours................ and 100% of it would be profit.

But there is the other side to this and that is that some people treat it like having finance, and have jobs done and buy things that they wouldn't normaly buy without the cash.

We have a gsm mobile card machine with cardsave and it's been a very worthwhile expence, wouldn't be without it now.

I wouldn't touch the machine in the original post or the paypal effort, they look unprofessional imo, and the charges are extorsionate.

I only use the PayLeven chip and pin for WoodFuel sales, for a number of customers it's the easiest payment method. There was no tie-in period, merchant contract or high fees for device (£50). Our commercial grounds maintenance clients all pay by BACS.
