got a question on the kelly kettle, i have about 20 min break usually, no more, would i realistically have time to prep a fire, light it and boil water in 20 mins? or would i be better of with something like a jetboil?

If you have a bit if dry kindling/twigs/dry ferns to hand it will take about 5 minutes. Then you have to let it burn out after. Jet boil is built for speed. Take a flask, and put any surplus hot water into it from the jetboil. I only use the kelly when I,ve got time to.

One thing I always carry is BBQ lighting fuel, sure gets your fire heat up quickly therefore gets a boil in a couple of minutes.

I take 2 plastic ice cream tubs with me in the van. One of them has shavings from the planer thicknesser and the other has old wooden business card blanks in it. Both are bone dry and it doesn't take long to boil my Kelly up using them and have a brew

if you have dry kindling and get the fire going it will boil 5 cups of water in just over a min very quick pine cones,oldmans beard, shavings, so i would say if you get fire going in first two mins 5 max hot water.

I keep some of those small solid fuel tabs with me, the ones about the size of an extra strong mint. I cut one in half and just use one half to get the fire going.

You don't need to but if like me you only have a 20 minute break you don't want to be faffing trying to get it lit.

The cost very little and a pack of them fits in an old baccy tin along with a lighter.

It's a frontier stove with water heater; not the smallest of wood stoves but great for a fixed site for cooking and boiling up wets!
