Seriously annoying ear defenders!!! constantly falling out of the rails, which means you spend an average of 5 minutes a day trying to relocate the pins back into the rails, also I have just been to the doctor = swollen ear drum which I put down to the lack of protection offered by the ear defenders, I am going to order the good old Petzl vertex to save my hearing!!! HALF THE COST TOO

I am having the exact same problem !! Also damaged hearing !! The only good thing about it is the bag that stops you from losing all the bits when they fall off its an absolute joke, I would not of in hindsight payed £10 for this helmet.

Hold on. Remember when all the Toyota Prius were recalled cos there was a problem.

(Stupidest car ever IMO) but people continue to buy them when Toyota fixed the problem.

 

I'm sure Phanner will fix any problems and continue with the product.

 

It's a great product but can't suit 100% of people.

If I lost mine tomorrow I'd buy another instantly.

In the handbook given even that shows the hearing protection is barely legal for this work and it's definitely not legal for chipper work.

The only thing I ask of a helmet is to be able to put the defenders down and just get on with work but in the case of the protos they just come off in your hands and if that's not happening the sweat band falls off !the bags a god send to collect the bits in and transport it, I was not using it until bits kept disappearing in transport to site.

Also I find if I use the red leaver it just gives me a head ache.

Glad its working for some people but it's honestly the worse helmet I have used.

If using the red lever gives you a headache you have it adjusted wrong. Love mine it's the best helmet I've ever had!👍

I've been using the Protos since it came out in the UK. Still find it the most comfortable helmet I've used to date.

I got hold of a spare headband and spare ear defender covers, so that I can swap out and clean.

 

Cleaning the ear defenders is so important, as bad hygiene leads to painful infections in the ear. I spent a couple of decades in the Air Force wearing headsets and this was a common problem, especially when working in the heat of the Gulf.

 

As above, if I lost or broke it I'd buy another tomorrow.

I have used helmets from Kask, Edelrid & 3 versions of Petzel.

In my opinion none of these fitted as well as the Protos.

I often didn't get a good seal on the earmuffs also due to having a narrow head.

The recessed earmuffs of the Protos does not restrict them from sealing well. They can be dialed into the pressure you require to get a comfortable fit. I feel this adds more protection than a higher rated muff that is not correctly sealed.

The cons for me are, I didn't like the colour options. Too bright.

The visor is not recessed into the the helmets profile when up, causing it to catch on branches of tight trees. It's also a bit clunky & does not offer me enough dust protection. I am looking forward to a new option for this.

I had one, used it a few times but found the ear defenders were poor at protecting ears from chipper or saws, but the main thing was that it just didn't fit my head in a comfy way.
