This problem arises far too often - what the customer wants is precisely what the tree doesn't. The primary concern I think is that other tree surgeons may look at your work and rightly classify it as cowboy quality; worse still they may tell the owner their opinion thus crystal clear explanation from oneself must be given to the client with some form of disclaimer...

Tricky one isn't it?

I think as long as you explain to the customer clearly that it will be bad for the tree, will look utterly s**t, and if they tell anyone who did it you will have to kill them, then I think you have covered yourself.

If you hadn't done it, I guarantee someone else would have.

nice reduction:001_tongue:

Unfortuantly we have to make a living, sometimes that means doing things we would rather not. I don't doubt that you informed her that it wasn't the best choice for you or the tree, but if thats what she wants what can you do? If you didn't do it she would have just got someone else to. And its a gum it'll be back in no time.

I'd still take the piss though

Apparently I am an 'arsehole' for doing this to a Eucalyptus:

But despite my advice, it is exactly what the cutomer wanted.

What do you do? Refuse the work??

Opinions please!!? (dont be too nasty!)

A couple of times I have been told to take more and more off a tree with horrible results, against my judgement.

I will not do it anymore in the same way you would not ask any trades person to do a shoddy job.

Well done for posting the Euc though, I think most arbs have done it from time to time especially when there are stem weaknesses.

Eucs usually fall over eventually anyway!

VERY, VERY, unprofessional , IMO.

You have "privileged information", if the customer had known you were going do that, they would not have told you.

IMO, you should advertise that if you feel a tree need saving you will go behind their backs and tell the authority's, that way the customer can decide whether or not they wish too give you the information.

Quite right, we moan about not being taken seriously as a profession, and then do things like that. Whatever happened to client confidentiality?
