:thumbdown:this happened two weeks ago very uncomfortable pain radiating from right shoulder gets worse the less i do so being at home has been horrid (even used that ?? vacum cleaner) went to doc's thay gave me strong pain killer and anti-inflamatory drugs that have helped loads but due to firms rules not allowed to work on them.

Doctor wasnt able to give an accuraute diagnosis but my chirocpractor is pretty good and has help loads

However today im of the precribed drugs as my sick note ends tomorrow and the pains kicking in almost constant have taken ibroufen and pracetomol as much as i can

My problems is that if i get doctor to give me the good stuff then company says i cant work and puts me on statutary sick pay £16 per day

All this and the pain wakes me at 3/4 in the morning every morning so not so much sleep.

So please has anyone had experiance of this injury any tips or pointers much appreicatted.

Do you know exactly what damage youve done?

How bad are the symptoms?

Can you hold your arm out straight to the side?

Can you make fast movements with your arm?

Could you contemplate a press up?

Have you seen a shoulder specialist? - had a scan?

I managed to detach the tendon on my rotator cuff and needed an operation to reattach it.

I detached it in a ski fall in February, took 6 weeks to get diagnosis via various scans.

Six months after op before I'm supposed to climb!

If its any guidance - the day I did it, and for a couple of weeks after I could not lift my arm up to the table (only with the help of the other arm) to eat. There was no strength in it.

It gradually and slowly felt better over the weeks before the op then I had to start again after the op. Couldn't get much sleep, had to do EVERYTHING left handed!

I'm not a doctor- please remember I'm going on a 55 year old memory here....

if its a damaged muscle it can heal back , but there will be scar tissue. If the tendon is detached it cannot repair itself and will need an op.

You really need to find out what has gone wrong - make sure you get a scan ,

maybe even go private on the scan to speed it up.

YOU MUST SEE A GOOD SPECIALIST - this could drag on for months.

I have no rotator cuff muscles at all in my left shoulder due to the whole thing being smashed to matchwood ( along with breaking my right femur ) in a bike accident . There is a metal bakll on a spike pushed into my left humorous and its pants to be honest . Holding stuff in both hands however is workable . i.e. a saw for instance . If you hold say a broom handle in both hands with your arms strait can you lift both arms up in front of you further than just the injured one ? this helps the injured one not to get stiff until it heels and can be worked itself . You will recover as you have all the parts still there and re attached ( unlike mine ) You godda give it time but keep working it gently with the help of the good arm with the broom handle . Your phsyo should give you the appropriate exercises to do . Good luck bud its not fun rite now but you will be back therte .

as shane says, any damage to the muscle will heal, but tendon damage wil require an op, I damage mine, tore the cuff tendons, and it took the doc 6 months to decide it was a little worse than he thought and send me for tests, an ultrasound showed th torn tendons, and an op to cure it, took about 14 months all in to get back to near normal, but it still twinges on cold and wet days. insist he get an appointment for you to see a specialist

I was told by 5 different specialist that I had de-tached my roto cuff. Had to insist on a MRI scan but after all it was not what every one said. I damage my should years ago and have got extra bone grow in there.I said bone growth don't grow in a short time, but they said no that's what the problem was. Still think they mist something because still getting the odd bit of pain a year on. So get it scanned and go from there best of luck.

There can be a problem with bone growing inwards into the gaps where the muscle needs to slide freely (undel the collar bone -I think). If the muscle has torn the scar tissue which develops as it heals can catch on these ingrowing bone bits and cause really bad pain.

My surgeon told me they ALWAYS remove such ingrowing bone as part of the repair operation while they are in there.

Had mine operated on a number of years back, .... over 2 years off in total. It seems it is easily misdiagnosed... mine was initially diagnosed as frozen shoulder when in fact i had 2 severed tendons. If it persists in my experience you must push and push for scans etc. as using it can cause far worse damage.

They told me they could not do an opp on it because it would be worse then leaving it like is. A question I have is when I damaged mine when I drove a tractor or ran my arm felt like it was detached and would bounce and jolt on It's own???
