Mine does burn both, only it does it very efficiently, the only difference is hardwood needs the vent opening right up to get the btu's out whereas softwood gives the btu's out with the vent nearly closed therefore less heat goes up the chimney with the airflow

Tell me about spruce! Gone in a flicker; much prefer larch, western red cedar and mac. Got some dead standing douglas coming up - any good?

 

 

 

 

I cant see that lasting too long in the firebox either!

Funny enough I reckon the Europeans burn mostly hardwood, esp Beech, from personal car based touring holiday observations.

And the Scandavians prefer Birch, leastwise this is about the only timber I recall seeing in the brochures for log processors or Morso stoves.

Birch like tele poles, straight as a Die.(btw, should that not be straight as a Tap?)
