my wife hit a car from behind, you could barely see the dent in the bumper ( 2000 ford focus). Drivers baby didnt even wake up.

 

I have it on my insurance as a claim for £12000!!!

 

Could have replaced the car brand new for less.

 

Oh and six moths after the crash the baby was claiming for wipe lash. I kid you not.

 

Tricky that! hit from behind with a wet wipe.:001_smile:

A write off can always be fixed and put back on the road. Some may require a visit to a vosa testing station to be checked over others will just need a visit from vosa to check the chassis and vin numbers match to check you havnt cut and shut. Others won't need any visit just try and tax it or MOT it.

 

 

Not all write offs can go back on the road cat B insurance write offs are mandatory breakers, the body shell and frame has to be destroyed and it or parts of it can’t be used on another vehicle. Some salvage outlets will only sell cat B's to licenced breakers and often demand photo evidence of the destruction process.

 

You can repair a car with substantial parts of another vehicle so rather than cut and shut VIC checks are about ringers and clones.

 

AFAIK Vosa don’t come out to do VIC checks (I am sure they will if you pay them enough) all the ones I have done went to the test station.

according to a BBC stats program men have twice as many fatal accidents per mile driven as women!

Must be because the women let us drive when its foggy/icy/brakes shot etc...:rolleyes:

You make a valid point, it's usually men who take on the late night, poor weather driving, that's not the whole story of course but it's largely ignored.

I once had my 94 Ford Ranger backed into while parked along a side road. Old Bat said she never saw my truck?, IMO she never looked. Anyway there was no frame damage and due to the age of the truck no replacement bed to be found, the truck was totaled.

One year later still driving truck and watching out for Old farts behind the wheel targeting my Ranger. Tort and or Insurance reform is in order on both sides of the pond.

If caps on personnel injury and damage to vehicles were in place the insurance companies would be forced to be fair and not take advantage of the system. Of course the attorneys representing either side would not be in favor so Too bad!

Cat C is slight damage repairable and Cat D is economic write off ie old cars not worth the time to reppair both require a VIC check to get the logbooks back from DVLA and you have to go to your nearest VOSA center which are becoming less and less ! strange this thread because were next to an acident repair guy who is doing more work for Insurance companys on cars that would have been written of 2 - 3 years ago now there paying out for them to be repaired rather than scrapped ?
