Flame Retardant Chainsaw Clothing

Just wondering how many people have had the requirement for flame retardant clothing whilst undertaking treework.

 

There doesn't appear to be much information about whether our current chainsaw gear is retardant or not.. Stihl Hi-flex trousers say they are 'heat resistant'.

 

Is there any brands that make flame retardant and chainsaw protective clothing, or is it a case of wearing an overall to add just another layer whilst working!!?

 

Any thoughts or solutions to this would be appreciated!

Curious to know what situations would require this and still alow the use of a saw ? most places that require Proban or Nomex clothing are usually places where there is a high fire / explosion risk like oil refinerys and chemical instalations .

It was mentioned to me by a large construction contractor who are trying to roll out a blanket 'flame retardant' PPE requirement

We had that a few years ago on a site clearance, the company we were working for wanted us to put on a flame retardent overall over the top of our normal ppe

we refused on h&s grounde of heat fatigue and ability to get out of the way of hazards if needed to so had to fill in a disclaimer about if all because some fool had burnt himself while filling a cut off saw and smoking at the same time.

That's the approach I was going to go down, I wonder if anybody has agreed to this and found a way to comply??!!

You can get flame retardant hi vis vests (long sleeve type).

Do they? I have burnt holes in them loads of times with pole pruner, mid range trimmer exhaust! I think they are about as heat resistant as a shell suit.

I did electrical sub station tree works for a while, we were required to wear flash over suits, chainsaw protection, and hi viz, in all weathers, hot or not. Usual requirement for electrical work in live environments.

Working in the rain last week and got soaked there was no way I could have got them to burn.
