Washing ropes

I was taught. Liquid dish soap, definitely no chlorine and

the key is always use front load wash machine.

Worked well for me.

i tried just a little bit of euc oil put it were the fabric softener goes in the machine . Only a few drops and it took out all the cypress sap no worries. Smells good too. Put it the rope in one of those weaver rope wash bags, thanks treestuff.

I just put them in the washing machine no detergent, just water and 30 degrees.

Seem to come up all right O and I spin them out. Happy days

How about pre treating with a detergent and taking a preasure washer to the ropes on a clean surface, drip dry and use? A self service car wash may also work the same way?.

Forcing dust and grit deeper into the rope, not a good idea plus it's labour intensive compared to chucking it in the machine and retiring to the sofa with a warm beverage. You don't even have to worry about the women getting upset, it's not like you put a cylinder head in the dishwasher.

Warm beverage pffffff more like a cold beer:-).

I used to wash caving ropes in any cloths washing liquid we had at the time but that was many years ago. These days I would use ecover non-bio delicate, good stuff made for wool etc so not harsh.

Or better still use SoapNuts

these are great and been using them all summer with every day washing, well worth trying but if you expect it to remove oil on work trousers it will need a little help.

We dont use any powder liquid now that is full of nasty crap but smells nice, we are conned into thinking if it smells nice it is clean.

if you do try soapnuts, soak them in the little bag for 10 mins in warm water (i use an old coffee jar for this) then tip it all into the machine, you get 4-5 washes out of a few nuts so it works out cheap, you dont need fabric conditioner.

Dishwashers make excellent parts washers.... I'm going to try to sneak a complete saw's worth of parts through when the opportunity presents itself....
