Upgraded to a Wallenstein Wx640 !!!

Thanks Greg from Bathlogs :)

Beast :) 25tons of pure pleasure! (ish)

At least it's the 'high' model and the first Wallenstein that I've used standing up straight... So no sore back!

Now it's to get a remove able logs table and the option of double controls (for hse) fitted. I'm also going to make a 4 way and six way wedge for it.

Happy happy happy :)

  • 4 weeks later...

its an ongoing project

all built from scratch apart from the trailer chassis

powered by a 3 cylinder kubota diesel running a 25gpm single stage pump

still got a log lift to build and a silencer to fit to the exhaust!

happy with it and the speed but a few mods are planned

That's a nice splitter. I think the only mod I would really need to make is to bevel the edge of the wedge guide... I assume that's what the log hangs up on and jams it now and again in the video? Being able to just drop the log on the bad would be a real bonus and a bevel would allow it to lift the log out of the way rather than sticking on it.

yeh still need to grind an edge and cut the wedge down slightly! its well seasoned wood and the blades a bit long with too much surface area so need to lift some of logs to the top of the wedge to start the split! only runs a fast idle which seems to be fast enough!

Here is my old splitter made 20 or so years ago and still going strong!! Health and safety may not like it!! also the new 60 ton splitter that at the moment has a lump of spruce jammed in the blade!! so some redesign of the blade needed.

i do like your splitters, homemade is definitely the best! i too have a lump of 2foot spruce jammed in the knifes, just not enough power to push
