2 cubic metres?

This was a gcse maths question, with the question reading, " which is the greater volume, 5m3 or 5 3m?" (small 3's)

Or 5 meters cubed, vs. 5 cubic meters. If you advertise m3 then technically the customer is correct. this is one of the most common mistakes in volume and is why it was drilled into us at school.

I think you'll find the power of 3 operates on the metre, meaning 1 metre x 1 metre x 1 metre, so 2 metres cube means 2 x (1 metre cube), ie 2 m^3

Sorry, mate, but it doesn't :-(

"2 metres cubed" means 2mx2mx2m, which is 8 lots of 1mx1mx1m, generally written 8m3.

"2 cubic metres" means 2 lots of 1mx1mx1m, which is 2m3.

(I know there have been a zillion alternatives put on this thread, and they're all different, but would you believe me if I said I had a degree in maths?!)

Back to the original posting: either the customer was as confused as half of us here, or he was taking the mickey. My money's on the latter...
