201T interesting info...

Picked up a 201T on my way home as my backup 200T is getting a bit to tempermental, and I like to have two that wok on site.

 

Not started it up yet so can't comment on how it compares to the 200t, but the latest 201T have a different carb and piston to the first ones, to give them a higher compression ratio, and so more grunt.

 

Was also told that they don't come fully alive until around 20 fill-ups.

 

If operators of the early 201t's are still unhappy after 20 fill-ups apparently they can have the later carb and piston fitted.....could be heresay though...

I was at Stihl in Camberley last week speaking to their technical people and they too said it takes about 20 tanks to get better. I'm speaking to one of them later this week, I'll ask if it's true ref the carb. :001_smile:

I thought you had one of the first ones....

 

The 'carb and piston' change is quite recent I think.

 

Had mine since last January, it good. Only problem I've had was the mount below filter broke, which was fixed under warranty.

While it was being fixed I went back to my 200, which has had a little over a years use, the 200 had a little more grunt, but the improved shape, better handle and better switch means I prefer the 201. The only thing I dislike is the filter cover.

It's only the bedding in period that is 20 tanks full. Give or take a few. Once the ring have bedded into the liner any engine will run good.

 

Remember there was a thread about the running in period and putting the first tank through it at slow non hard working. Then work the nuts off it.
