It can be a nightmare, I now sell in bulk bags, most people calling up know what a bulk bag is as lot of people have no idea what a cube is. I had one lady remark that I thought u would get more? I explained that you get as much as will go in a bulk bag!! People just want the most for as little money as possible. What makes me laugh is people who will buy a trailer load of sticky fresh larch because its cheap rather than seasoned hardwood then moan tha t it wont burn.

I dont think it matters what trade dealing with the general public can be hard work. I get people ringing up to buy cheap chinese diesel generators to live off grid running 18 hours a day. When you explain they are rubbish they argue that they dont want it to last a life time just a couple of years. Your lucky if they last a week. :001_rolleyes:

Sell by the m3 if the customer struggles to understand we then go on to explain size of trailer how many bulk bags. Best thing is have a website with pics of your load size and ask them to view it and choose once they have seen it they will buy.

Out of different loads bought locally about half the loads that were called seasoned were seasoned properly.

One place gave me a sample log to test with moisture meter than was 15% moisture. The rest of load was over 35% when it arrived. I reckon he must have kept a few seasoned logs back for the difficult customers brandishing moisture meters

Made me laugh at the thought of him strategically keeping a special dry logs too hand etc.

Didn't mind that much though as have enough space to season at home & the load was more generous in volume that some others for the price. would of being annoying if volume was short or if I only had small storge space etc though :001_rolleyes:

I don,t understand why some merchants do this sort of thing. If you look after your customers well, supply what you say you are supplying they keep coming back and are prepared to pay a bit more because they trust you. Also having to keep finding new customers and there houses must be a pain. On the other hand long my the dodgy dealer continue they keep the rest of us looking good

I had a customer last week said she would be in touch when she wanted more from me as she was trying a guy who could do it for £40 a ton. I just said thats a good deal if its seasoned you should get at least 3 builders dumpy bags as they hold no more than a third of a ton. I was being generous at that.

She wanted more from me this week, He either is still chopping it and wished he kept his mouth shut or she wasn''t impressed. I will ask sometime.

Iv'e had several people selling logs, claiming a builders bag equals 1 ton of logs or 1 cubic meter of logs :001_smile:

"because 1 ton of sand comes in them etc"

Reckon some people must even believe them? :001_huh:
