A lot of dirtbike riders will advise; ride it like you stole it to run it in.

Seemingly everything beds in better. I've always run saws flat out from the box but with a slightly richened top end jet. Weaken it up after a few hours.

I run mine in for about 4 tanks just for peace of mind really now that i have to buy my own saws but never did in the past...some saws seized in the after only 12 months these were never run in...my current 357 is 3 years old been run in(first saw i tryed it on) and its been ragged hard since and still runs spot on...wich is definietly a record for a mid range saw used by me ! so i now run in all new saws.

the carbs are normally down tuned from the factory, thats why they say to reset after a couple of tanks, i would run it normally for a few tanks then get the carb set to spot on factory settings
