Friday and it was 28c in the shade today here in Brittany.

Working locally for 3 days clearing a building plot of macrocarpas before work starts end of next week.

All was going well until the waterboard turned up to fit whatever they had to fit right underneath our last tree...NUTS!:confused1:

Luckily we always have plenty to get on with but it meant that at the end of the day we still had an unfinished tree standing rather than just the stumps which are a one man job on a Saturday.

Could hardly grumble as it was the same crew who have just installed water to our new HQ and as ever in France some-one knows some-one who knows us and so we where amongst friends.:001_cool:

All the wood is being given away through our grapevine, some 25m3.

80m3 of chips have gone away collected by a farmer who lent us a 20m3 trailer.

Every-ones a winner...almost.

Ty

looks like a nice job( maybe without the heat!) do you stump grind everything?? funny as round our way i have never seen a stump grinder as everyone either leaves it or uses a digger. farmers and their toys are always welcome on a job :thumbup1:

I was marginally cheaper than the ground works company on stumps.

Bit of trouble tonight, 2 of my free wood pickers got stopped by some locals and accused of stealing the wood.

All cleared up by a few phone calls but I'm glad people are watching out here.

I've told the rest to come on Sunday and load up to avoid any issues.

Finding work is not too difficult. Getting it year round takes time. Starting up as a sub-contractor in a new country, there's a lot to prove. Takes time to build a reputation, and trust. I have work all year, but it didn't happen over night.

I like the spiderjack a lot. Its not the best choice for every situation....but certainly if Im working DdRt, I'll favor it every time over a hitch.

For the record, same applies to France.

(If you can speak French of course:001_rolleyes:)

After moving to Rennes in April 2010 with just a kangoo van and microchipper, we are now fielding a team of 3-4 every day and still cannot meet demand.

For many it ends badly Ty, don't know how it is there. They expect too much when they get here, overspend, can't get work, miss home, and end up going back potless within a year. I heard of one crane operator, brought his family out, lasted only 2 months. Went back with nothing. You have to expect a tough couple years to start with.
