Not me, but my nephew in Yorkshire.

Some of you may remember he spent a year out here in France working for me.
He runs his own gig over there now.
He sent me pictures of this hedge he’s just finished, thought it merited posting on this thread.

He did a good job there.

This could be a guess the height thread starter. I'm thinking 35 feet, any ideas on what it is?

Price wise, I'm guessing he did it for the love of the job. :)

That’s my brother in one of the pics, he’s 6ft1 so I dunno.

He’s no mug (my nephew) so it was fairly priced, everyone was happy afterwards.

I wouldn’t contemplate taking on something like that these days.

He used a Genie wheeled lift, great tool apparently.

fair enough. Ive got an idea of what id charge and reckon I could fell it for the same sort of money as it would cost to prune it

I'm an amateur compared to you guys - one man band effort, but 2 things

1 looking at before and after, its not being pruned so much as trimmed (without being there I doubt a chainsaw went near it) (Edit -ok a bit for the top I can see maybe 2 inch stems cut)

2 the cost, ok the hire would have been a bit, but surely max 2 men for 2 days and perhaps 2 ton of cuttings, or chip to dump

I spend 3 to four days on my own hedge cutting in the biggest gardens I do for a yearly - I'd be surprised if I couldn't have done that in four days, including clearing away.

It's not exciting work, more of a slog, but that hedge only had a yearly trim by the look of it, cant see why felling needed considering.

If you gave me a ro ro bin to rake up into , a platform and £950.35 I'd do it every year as a subby

Great photos. Slap them in front of anyone you’re trying to win bona fide subcontracting work from (or just anyone who knows what tree work entails) and you’re winning it.

I did three memorable days in a wheeled 86’ genie a few years ago. Something like a seven tonne carrier. Great on the flat. As risk-averse on slight slopes as you’d imagine. Spent a lot of time cajoling the alarm.

Sorry. Say again. I could have sworn you said 2 men for 2 days. Wednesday off for a CSCS refresher and then a quick coat of red Hammerite on the Forth Bridge to take you to Friday?

It’s a monster. I’d start with a full week hire and not have anything planned for the weekend. Or the following week, besides a shoulder massage.

Actually no. I just wouldn’t do it. I don’t have the resilience. You’d need pictures of your loved ones in the basket to make sure you didn’t jump out.

ok - so if I couln't do it on my own in 4 days it would have been added to the list of jobs I've underestimated,

can imagine being absolutely gutted by day four with 75 ton of green waste still strewn about and ragged bits of hedge still needing straightening

Nature isn't fair to all - some rise to be captains of industry, other have to raid the Tesco food skip at night

Nice work and all….

…. but, per square metre, this must be the most inefficient configuration of hedge / drive / lawn / shed I’ve ever seen.
