Most of the time I'm fairly good at talking them out of such things as what was dome to the hedge was the original request for the sycamore but left that quite decent.

Hedge was the kind of bloke who would get someone else if I didn't do it.

Yeah I know what it's like and as you say they would just get someone else in if your not doing it.

Looks like "inboard" step cut?...less chance of the saw being tugged away. Any more pictures of said job Steve?

 

Nope, on the left hand side is a gob, the right hand side is the back cut...you can see how far I got to cut into it before it snapped off:001_rolleyes:

 

No more pics. Will get some more when I go back. Only had 2 men on the ground, there was really no sparing anyone for photo opportunities unfortunately

Don't know if it would be better cutting some of the sap wood on the sides and then finishing with the back cut. Just a idea.

Yeah Darrin, I did use that technique on some of the bigger pieces. In the example posted though, these were straight drops...if I am in a safe position I like to experiment and see what I can get away with sometimes
