Unknown invasive, riverbank

Hi all I've got a random photo from a client here they've got this growing all over a riverbank on one of their sites. I'm pretty sure it's not a tree

 

Interested to know what it is.

 

It's definitely not himilayan balsm, which is one of the more common river bank invasive species.

 

Thoughts on this are welcome :-D

99% sure its a native, although a better photo would confirm this, these can spread exceptionally quickly across small watercourses to the point they appear totally clogged with it, but it will clear over winter.

 

I wouldnt be worried about it personally.

in fact if its not just plain old watercress then it might be hemlock waterdropwort or similiar umbellifer. Looks very native to me - then its not being invasive its being opportunistic! or something.... if you aint got a wildflower key book , try googlin' them

I think the river may be a red herring?

 

It's a bit difficult from the pic but I would guess tree of heaven (ailanthus altissima)

From the pic it looks as if it is suckers or has been mowed/strimmed

Theres a twig in the bottom middle of the photo that looks like ash

That's right tree of heaven has twigs/young shoots and stems that look like ash

these arent trees if you ask me, this looks like a low level perennial, my first thoughts where watercress but not quite right, a better closer photo would help

 

fleshy stems on another look, im sure its watercress
