i have just sold all my fire wood gear a month, after looking in the local paper this weekend i saw 9 adverts for people selling logs, and could think of at least another 5 that wernt advertising. i am just going to split enough to keep the home fire burning and keep a few friends in logs. all old customers that ring up are getting past on to the guy that now owns my processor in return for 1 load = 1pint.

Got a quote today for seasonned cord wood £60 ton + vat

I retail at £75 per cude

.......not for long at those prices.

 

I can't see how the market can continue in this way.

 

Someone mentioned firewood being a luxury item....it will feel like it when I put my prices up!

Took a load out this afternoon,customer said "i expect you log men will be out of business this time next year,with all the ash trees that'll be cut down you wont be able to give it away"

Its being so cheerful that keeps some people going.

If the ash is cheap we will make more because the end product will compete with gas and oil we will sell more. General public too lazy to cut up their own logs so you will earn the same for your labour but wont need to invest £50 a tonne in cord. If people have their own wood to cut up I remove the cost of the wood and charge for my labour same result. If everyone has cheap ash to cut up there will be a shortage of log men so you can charge more. I would imagine the government will send the ash to a power station to stop it ruining local businesses.
