as for alberes question if its so tough why do it? cause we enjoy it, what else would we do if theres no jobs? i want my business to work, and it is, plus i dont want to work for anyone else, but times have been tough, but we are doing ok

I have a mate just come out of being a barman, started doing gardening for domestic clients... he charges £15 p/h.. NO quals no nout... I have done things the correct way ...college... nptc's the works.. and i come out with £9 p/h. And i supply my own saws,rigging kit, climbing kit, ppe... it does get me a little peeved when i think about it but that's just life i think.

You could have less stress working for someone else earning £9 a hour tho. But then again none of you would because you no your worth more that's why you all run your own businesses.not for love but for money.

 

It's a combination of reasons. Money is in there but not by any means guaranteed. When it happens I agree- it's great. Funnily enough love is also in there - I love it, I love it not.

I think the business owners defend what they are paying out (crap wages according to some) because they have to see a bigger picture. The job doesn't stop at providing you with your beer tokens, your fag money, your training, your holiday pay, all the tools for you to earn your pittance. It also involves a nightmare of red tape, retraining fees, TPO and 211 applications, driving for fruitless hours pricing against 10 other companies all looking to be the winning bidder. they have had a business for decades in some cases, and we are now experiencing one of the toughest economical periods for many years. They all want to still be in business in the future, not just for today. What's better getting £9 per hr indefinitely, or £15 pr hr for a few weeks then getting laid off?

The grass always appears greener on the other side of the fence, but it rarely is.
