Trailer floor

get down a commercial breakers and rip the floor out an old artic trailer bound to be cheaper? quick plane and good as new

 

Have you ever tried ripping out a trailer floor? I have.

 

It's not as simple as you think, the easiest way is to flip the trailer over and slide hammer the screws back out

 

The timber will be full of contaminants, I wouldn't put a plane anywhere near it.

When my floor went . It worked out cheeper to part x it for a new trailer .

did mine with marine ply coated with bitumen paint on underside and edges and then chequer plate over top to give a hard surface a few yrs ago. seems very solid still.

cant say i notice the difference and it gives peace of mind when i am either lobbing in logs or its getting stuff emptied out of it with tractor bucket. chequer seems very hard wearing

Quoted £ 75 for an 8 x 4 sheet at 3/4 " thick . This is from a local trailer guy . The wood is laminated birch with a smooth side and a non slip side . Will work out at two sheets as the trailer is 10ft x 5ft with limited waste . The guy can get me a one piece although it will cost more .

I paid about £30 a sheet from a timber merchant a couple of years ago.

i have done a few, horse boxes a standard trailers.

 

cheapest option is scaffold planks.

 

a good trick is use hardwood planks, spaced on the frame then ply on top.

I had to re floor two of my trailers and i brought some sheets of plastic from solway recycling. The beauty is that it never rots, easy to cut and drill, and is very strong. they do 12mm thick sheets.

I actually brought 10 sheets of 6mm for laying out on gardens so i can run machinery back and forth to save the grass. I ran a 10 ton steel tracked excavator over them, not a mark on them!

Are they slippy ?

 

Tuttle that sounds heavy scaffold planks and boards ?
