We have never been charged for a crane on any road, last time the tree office came and watched and took piccies...nice. For the length of time time the job will take, even with a crane the bulk will be down in a few hours, if you have a decent crane driver he may be able to get the crane in such a position that the road is only partially blocked. Also if you pull the 3 d's out of the hat, dead dying or dangerous they will probably supply highways guys to clean up behiind ya.

I was thinking of hiring a couple of big issue sellers for a temporary closure.

Everybody and their dog seem to do anything but go near them.:001_smile:

A well thought out mix of double glazing salesmen, preachers and random nutters could quite simply make a highway a no go area.:sneaky2:

Plenty of suggestions :001_smile: I've thought about not telling the LA and just closing but that's the day a blue light is going to come flying up the road and then we're in s!*t street.

The road is just a shortcut between two others but the crane with legs extended needs 8 metres and that means hedgebank to hedgebank with crane so no way of room to spare for emergency vehicles.

The tree is a big beech with Ganoderma and Meripilus = extensive dieback, on the top of a steep bank above the property. There's just no way to gain access through the property garden as it's thickly planted with prize maples etc....the owner's a gardening nut!

Will try council with DDD...in their interests etc and see what they come up with.

I would definitelygo with the DDD, say nothing about crane or road closure get them to condemn it saying its hazardous and hopefully you can get away with out having to pay the big closure fee :thumbup1:

As for trying to get away without getting the permit thats a hell of a gamble if things go wrong! Would end up costing way more than £1600, paying the fine, another days crane hire, another days wages for the lads and then paying for the permit in the end.

Anyhow only a cowboy trying to under cut there compatitors by not doing a professional job would try that one :sneaky2:

This thing of just do it on a sunday just sounds a bit wrong to me. it's hard enough to stop people coming along a road that is propaly closed wanting to just nip past or arguing about your right to stop them coming past. If you have done everything through the proper channels you can tell them to go back and that as its a closed road they have no insurance.

Trying to cut corners for the sake of price is edging a bit close to the travalling lop and top boys for my liking after all this is the image that this industry has battled to get away from for years!!

DO it properly 1'st time and it might just save your ass one day.

But what happens if you contact the Council playing the DDD card and they then force the customer to take the tree down ASAP and still pay the bill or even worse they take it down and charge the customer

So £1600 is a reasonable price then ??
