  1. I have about 8 days of work, i could do with clearing it out of my diary ish starting 3rd may, there is flexibility which i require climber with all tickets. all the work is pretty straight forward, nothing horrible. I have full insurances covering everything, would like to meet said person before commencing. call or pm to discuss rates etc and availability
  2. BS5837 also says 12 times stem diameter, should also be measuring at 1.5m above the ground page 10 ish of bs5387, rpa calcs, trees two to five stems stem 1 squared + stem 2 squared + stem 3 squared + stem 4 squared + stem 5 squared. Then square root the final answer, i cant find the square root sign etc on my keyboard.
  3. Don't bother wasting a time taking it vertical, go smaller, let the crane do the work for ya, if you can get a crane to the tree , you can get the piece of timber or limb, or stem where you like
  4. Yep I use both normal and rapide, depending on which rope bag gets dragged out, mine does the same, an engineering friend explained bushes and bearings, I left and made a coffee, works fine
  5. Tell them to appeal to Bristol City Council, they always go against the council decision, done it several times, cellweb and all that stuff is a waste of time, tree is now too big for location, lets look at the risk of failure
  6. Has anyone had to do a tree risk assessment, not tree works, not a qtra paragraph, but a proper spreadsheet identifying the risk etc, ie high wind, possible failure, fruit, poisonous or not, leaves furry, poisonous etc. roots affecting pavements causing trip hazard. I have got over 100 trees to survey, they also want a tree risk assessment, please only reply with sensible answers or if someone has got one i can take a look at, email it to me
  7. New Cambium saver, 10minutes of playing, even got the cats playing with the tenex, love the stuff
  8. Yeah i am backing this one, i have just got 44m 11.7 hedera, so far it is 1m shorter than it started. I can pull it apart and get everything set, the bury part just locks solid. Currently scratching head and rs, might go and stick a double figure eight in spare end, just not tell anyone
  9. If i wanted to tie knots i would, if i wanted to splice i would splice it myself, thats why i posted 'anyone know where you can buy the eye to eye'. alfwitz
  10. Anyone know where you can buy the 8mm eye to eye Armor Prus, i need to replace mine, cant find the eye 2 eye anywhere
  11. I dont do camp fire rumours, Arborology cleared to the deck
  12. That is a 23m mexican cypress, 10 tonnes of chip, 25tonnes of timber, 60" inches across the bottom, multiple codom stems. Absolute joy to rig that lot down. Not. The wall behind is listed.
  13. you can splice a rope when it has been used, but only the other end, it generally not been loaded so the fibres, strands are still nice and loose, you shouldnt be splicing the other end again. If you have a spare rope, learn how to splice, very useful, and it is not complicated.
  14. Anyone used or got experience on it, just ordered one,
  15. It does not actually have to have a CE, but it does need a certificate of compliance and testing, like any piece of kit, SWL, WLL and identification. what do we do with rigging gear every year, we have to have it inspected by loler. If the data sheet coming from English braid is saying 6000kg, then if we look at worst case scenario of a factor of 7, that still gives me a lump of wood 850Kg in weight. Now in this situation, i am purely prototyping in our industry. So i am not going to shock load, drop, bounce test a massive lump, i am looking at the practicals. Its weight saving and speed of use. I am going to get a 14mm 1m in length made up and see how we get on with it. Does it save time, does it reduce setup. If it does i will let the sceptics know. If it is not satisfactory i will let the sceptics know. As for double figure eights and knots, what the ? Use a dead eye sling, and a pulley and hitches. Enjoy the knot tying. I am off to make my life easier. They are used in yachting, they have also been in use by the 4 x 4 world.
  16. i can go braid on braid, dyneema you name it, time wise, they take a second to open the eye, close the eye, off ya go, they really look impressive,
  17. I discovered these little beauties the other day, i am getting the company to make me a soft shackle 14mm english braid dyneema, one metre in length. wll 6000Kgs. SWL 950Kgs. They are a lot simpler than what we all currently use, and the weight saving is impressive. The big issue is they are not CE certified yet, i am going to test one in the industry and see how i get on. Just have a look at the website and let your mind go mental, i am not looking for someone to give me war and piece about ce marking & loler etc, i am fully aware of all the legislation, health and safety, and my own life. Just have a look at the concept http://www.softshackle,com
  18. Just got my new pink hitchclimber and ovals, its gonna send my ocd into room spin, pink and green are not the new black and white, might have to get a pair of them matching chainsaw protective flip flops to really set the out fit off properly
  19. i think apps are great for phones, do you really need an app to tell you when the rope is foobarred. If you are looking at a rope, which is cut or has abrasions, and need to compare it, then bin it and get a new one. They havent created an app yet which can get the awkward tree down out of the sky and onto the ground, cut it up and process it. I hoped that would be in IOS7.0, sadly not, not even take a photo and then let it do it's magic.
  20. Put the pursue cord on a quick wash cycle with a little detergent, to take the shiny ness off , they always do slip a bit when new
  21. The only reason i put it through loler was to make sure i was not doing anything untoward, secondly i do not have that whole rig setup at anyone time, the grubscrews can simply be undone, a swivel, or a plate, a myriad of combinations can be setup. Then of course i do the grub screws back up. Hmm totally practical for my requirements, from freestyle climbing, to general pruning, to dismantles etc. Oh yeah i have a second pair of sequioa rings as my side attachments, they work a fubar treat. The whole rig does. Go play
  22. i have a heavily modded sequoia, and it goes through loler everytime, doubled on bridges, i had a small rigging plate on there etc, also different types of rings, can run any combination dependant upon the job, use your imagination and enjoy, thats the problem the others have, they cant imagine
