Sorry folks! I know there must be a million posts on here regarding hitch climber set ups!

Newish to the forum and just purchased a hc setup , oval krabs, 10 mill ocean polyester and dmm pulley on 13mm climbing rope

Tried it today but having difficulty getting the hitch to grip tried distel and vt ,

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Cheers

Ocean polyester can be a bit soft when new, but it soon beds in and when it does, on a VT, its a really good cord, helps if you have a soft rope too.

Just keep re-dressing the not and trending to it till it grips on its own, shouldn't take long really

try it like a safety belt thing, it may not grip but a sudden sharp movement will cause it to lock-up.

Only a thought as I only put 2 wraps and 2 braids.

Yeh that too, if you try to sit back into it slowly it won't grip, a quick sharp drop back and there is more chance of a better grasp of the rope.

Hi Paul,

I use 8mm OP rather than 10, much prefer it in many ways, might be worth a shot.

The OP in general seems to take a while to bed in so no cause for concern. Tie a distel with 5 wraps for now and it will be fine. If you do incur a sudden drop it will bite.

Good luck.

It's quite normal with a vt/distel to have to physically set the knot for it to grip when you want to just sit back into it.

Did I see someone mention on here a while back that you should use 8mm prussik cord on small diameter ropes and 10mm on 13mm rope? Not meaning to hijack the thread but it is kind of linked and its too small a topic really to create a new post. I use 8mm beeline on 13mm xtc so would just be interested to know really.
