i had two quotes for my 300tdi defender clutch replacement last weekend, £420 and £500, the £500 was the local garage that normally gets used and they wanted it all week the £420 quote was a big well known garage locally i had it back the following evening,

if its like the 300tdi you do need to take the engine out as its easier, but even so that does sound a bit high, the clutch kit for mine was £125 the rest was labour

Main dealer could give you shock also John, worth asking for a quote though.

Try and look for a land rover "specialist" when on your travels. These guys are usually landy enthusiasts anyway, will have worked on many many before and will be able to charge less than the main dealer.

Will be great if you can find one like we have locally.

Just rang my land rover garage- they said abot 350-400 plus the dreaded......240 labour and the rest in parts, and the usuall advise a new clutch fork. They do have MASSIVE throughput of vehicles though so that may have a bearing, and it is Cornwall. The gut i spoke to said when they have vehicles from up-country the customer is always expecting to pay double the hourly rate. May not be so far off the mark Jon.

Just noticed you last post- dont consider main dealer mate!!!! You'll need a mortgage. I'm totally with 18 stoner here.

Dying breed my monkeys’ --- . I’m swamped, swamped I tell you! Must admit though – My faith has been tested over the last few weeks….

1st. the MOT and the stress over my inner and outer sills (how the hell it managed to pass I don’t know)

2nd. the clutch going on the way back from a country show with the two little ones in the back, then the stress of receiving that £600 bill and finding out they’d busted my centre consul.

But I have followed the righteous path and can now see the light……..till the next MOT anyway.
