could of done with that sawmill the other week, had a 15ft straight stem of beech about 3.5-4ft dia all the way up, none of the local sawmills wanted it. As it was behind a wall it had to be chogged down in small bits, wish I had a crane!! What would something like that be worth, its got/had some awsome markings on it.

Ok Nige, I'll let the cat out of the bag, we set out to mess with your head:001_tt2:

You rascals! :sneaky2:

After further thought, I'm now leaning towards a rear lock.

I don't fancy a front lock inadvertantly engaging due to the switch getting knocked or an electrical glitch as I'm going down the main road!

If theres no significant advantage in having a front diff lock over a rear one, then a conventional rear one will probably suffice.

If we reverse while pulling over a stem and the front starts to get a bit light, the weight of the vehicle is going to go on to the back wheels.

I like Toms idea of the on board compressor for cleaning saws.

Any more Landy boffins got any advice?

At the risk of being shot down in flames again:blushing: i will try offering some advice. I know two garages who fit up utilities landrovers, and both fit rear diff lockers if they are only fitting one. They also fit heavy duty half shafts and drive flanges (although if you have a very late 300tdi or a td5 your half shafts will be a single unit with the drive flange attached) and if fitting front locker then uprated cv joints too. Better quality lockers should be supplied as a kit with hd shafts etc. ARB seem popular. The com[rrssprs can be fiddly and temperamental so i understand that maintenance is important.

Dont drive round bends with the diff locked unless you are on VErY sloppy ground as the risk is destruction of part of the drive train. Just what i have always been taught.:001_smile:
