The problem with strengthening the steering gear is that you are transferring forces to other components.

HD track rods are just as easy to bend when you have a vehicle pushing it.

Straightening a heavy duty track rod in the field is a lot harder than a standard.

Good point and point taken.

Chaps, something came up in conversation today whilst trying to find my first tipper. There is a 110 that's having it chassis classification changed to 3500kg from 3000 whilst being overhauled. I didn't know that this could be done. Has anyone known of this in the past and will it effect ins. policies?

thanks

We've got a N reg 130 2.5tdi that has recently lost power, i'm struggling to get out of 2nd going up some hills without a load on. It always been a bit of a dog but it's really bad recently.

Last year the timing was adjusted which improved it slightly, i was told the other thing it could be was the turbo but i can hear that whistling away.

Any suggestions what may be causing it?

It can be done very easily, different people have different views on what needs to be done to it, but whatever it would be advisable to tell the insurance company

It's buggered I will take it off your hands :)

Failing it not being a fuel filter there should be another filter in the inlet pipe union on the injection pump, give that a clean, then make sure the return to tank pipe is clear especially on the union where it exits the ip.

Also too loud a turbo is not good.

Really fed up today.

After 2 and a half years completely rebuilding my 130 in my spare time as part of it instead of having the bulkhead galvanised I decided hot zinc spray was the way to go as I had heard about bulkheads distorting when galvanised and our local galvanisers are well known for distorting stuff.

But the firm who done the hot zinc spray made a bit of a mess of things and powder coated it aswell, long story short it looks very much like powder coat is all they done to it, and if they did hot zinc spray it was rubbish job as it is already rusting :(

Not very happy at all

I was going to rebuild my 110 hicap next but am now seriously considering an Ibex, although pig ugly rust is unlikely to be an issue, however after calling them today I won't get a kit until the end of the year.
