The reason I have mixed thoughts is that neighbour who happened to "be trained in assessing chainsaw work" did nothing to reduce the risk of an accident happening at the time the bloke was up the tree, but instead saw it as an opportunity to score points. And the size of the fine is ridiculous - it's not as if John Holland, the company owner, was sending an untrained employee up the tree. John Holland was up there himself doing it. Stupid? Sure. But a fine of £4k + £2k costs!!

 

My feeling is that the bloke "trained in assessing chainsaw work" had motives other than risk minimisation at heart!

As far as I can tell the bloke did no damage and hurt nobody. Wonder if the chap has been round for a quiet chat with the bloke "trained in assessing chainsaw work"

He didnt get fined for stupidity he got fined for not following the rules that we all follow.

 

He did no harm this time but last time or next time? It's either prossecute or allow him to continue as is.
