Hedges and trees are separate things.

 

Reducing 60' trees is opening a big can of ever-widening, ever more multi-stemmed, ever-more-difficult-to-deal-with can of worms.

 

People who want their conifers topped without ever addressing the side growth issue are idiots, pure and simple.

 

Truly the lowest form of tree work.

I've seen a few were they had them topped and trimmed at the sides but never touched them again.

 

They fanned out across a very nice lawn.

The semi evergreen is to cover privet hedges I believe.

 

I think it says "mostly evergreen", meaning if a hedge is of mixed species, but most are evergreen, its covered.

Also, satellite dishes don't have to be mounted on the house itself. I've seen many on stands close to the ground in people's gardens so they can be positioned to avoid line of sight obstructions. And they're often on the ground in conservation areas where they couldn't be mounted on the house.

Is the neghibour nice-if so, reduce the trees yourself on the promise that she subscribes to at least 6 adult sky channels and that she will invite you in for "tea & scones"...Nick.

Lets face it- big trees and especially conifers do often intimidate/bully neighbours even though the intention may not be for that- It would be nice to see people getting on- weave the web.

My neighbours conifer has been topped badly and is now heading my way- it's going to be a problem sometime in the next few years.

Tell her they are occupied by the lesser spotted flim flam tit and they nest for 12 months a year and such they can't be reduced

cheers folks, some good food for thought here and a lot i hadnt actually considered.

the point about the trees being there before the sky dish is a curious one, ive lived here for 5 years and the trees have always been there, and seem to have been at full height for most of that time, but all of a sudden they are a problem? seems dubious to me, surely they would have affected the signal long before now?

the other thing is, before she knocked on, she didnt know i would be capable of doing the work myself, but made no reference to chucking in to help out with costs. did she expect that i would fork out a £1000 ish so she can watch tv? as it happens i can do it, but not alone, so im still gonna have to pay a groundie and costs and blah blah blah.
