i took the misses and kids in to see major oak last weekend.

I only go really to look at all the other oak trees nearby as they have more of a natural setting and far more interesting in my opinion.

I know what your saying, but I have to confess the condition that the Major Oak is in was rather impressive. some good reduction work and all the propping she has had may seem a little unatural but its kept her in fine shape. Given her age, the condition she is in is amazing and looks like there is a lot of time left in her too:thumbup1:

Considering the likely weather at any given time in the UK, has this show or others like it ever been consided for a indoor venue?. I understand that some aspects would have to be adjusted for walking tours and such. With present day video and audio capabilities I wonder why this has not been used in the past?. Has it been a money issue or a rules and regs issue?. Here state side many shows for either ISA or TCIA are mainly indoors

to accommodate the vendors and visitors. Climbing competition are even held indoors as well along with demos of equipment and kit, within reason. Just wondering. Other thoughts or observations welcomed.

I knew we was in trouble, its a long drive for me to Leeds and all the way it poured down, getting heavier and heavier, I even said to Ed I wonder how many folk we see this and just turn around!

Such a shame but was the right call to cancel, the guys camping in the field would have had a MISERABLE night, the marquee, well if we had sat down our chairs would have sunk!

Theres a lot of "we can do it" spirit about but this was just not that sort of time!

Its a real shame, yesterday and today have been really nice, mostly sunshine with just the odd heavy shower.

The fact the rain had to stop at some point was considered, but the field was beyond saturation point and simply would have taken days if not weeks to dry enough to make it viable.

On another note, this event was organised at great expense and time input for the northern crowd, and yet was not only undersubscribed but around 50% of those attending where from the south, some with a 7 hour journey ahead of them.

I am not having a dig at those north of the watford gap but was that not a sad statistic?

When this arbfest idea gets re organised please support this event and attend if you can, this was not going to generate a profit, it was for YOU lot up north and if it doesnt get support I cant see it being able to go past 2 events, which would be a great waste and loss to all.

If there is one posative to come out of this cancelation I hope it is that when its re worked it is better attended and suported BY YOU ALL:thumbup:

Really feel for you all the people involved in putting this together, you must be gutted. The only thing you can't book is the weather, I hope the rescheduled date is a success and everyone can make it. I will try and be there.

I know just how much goes into setting up a show, it must have been a very hard decision to make, and I know if it could have gone ahead you would have made it happen.
