Took your advise and got one from German ebay . 61 euros .

So how do I get the cheapest deal. I see that they are €71 but the shipping is €30.. how ever many I get,

THe cheaper deal won't send it to the uk.

Anyone want to get some of these with me, then we can split the P&P

Interesting thread

I have stuck with a stilh splitting maul for some time now always dubious of new fangledness.

Does the Fiskars really deal with knotty wood and twisted stuff.

Saw a video on You Tube and the guy seemed to be struggling with the x27 to get through a big bit of wood. The head kept getting stuck in the soft wood.

Probably his technique.

The vipuries axe- just looks awkward although effective on birch (finnish standard wood) does it work on more awkward stuff/

Has anyone here abandoned their splitting maul for these new axes?

I haven't found anything that the fiskars axe doesn't do better than any maul I've used. Clearly there are limits to what any axe or maul can split, but the x27 really is insanely good. I genuinely LOLed the first time I tried one.

It's a superb axe - just incredible on oak in my experience. But I'm currently working through 27 tons of ash and I've reverted to my old maul (from Countrywide!). Reason being the ash is a bit stringy and the X27 doesn't force the bits apart far enough to break the stringy bits - so they hang together. The maul just brays them nicely apart.

Perhaps the lesson here is different tools for different woods?
