Chippings road?

I have use of a field however it gets very wet and muddy. If I put down a thick layer of Chippings, say 2-3ft deep would that help to spread the weight of my 3.5 ton truck?

Or am I dreaming and are just going to sink straight through?

Any thoughts welcome

Don't bother.. It turns to mush and you will find in a short time you will be stuck, done it to the yard and I had to use the digger to scrap it back off and lay hardcore down. Looks nice at first in summer but come winter it turns into a nightmare.

road plaining without heavy base layer of hardcore will do just the same, also any planings or rubble now needs an exemption to go on agri land as road, something to do with hazardour waste etc :S.

For it to not sink you will need to build the road up higher than the original path by good foot whacker plate it all down and keep going till its solid. isn't a small job.Im in process of re building my lane to my yard

see all your posts above and raise with the planning department - they also seem to take an interest in what goes on in these matters and are currently looking for any excuse to charge a planning fee.

We got stopped putting in a track along the edge of a muddy field as it was agricultural land and needed permission to do it!

We use chips as a road for 40 tonne dumpers no problems even when very wet construction needs to be good quality, box cut to hard formation level, constuct fall to shed water, terram membrane place hardcore or oversize compost arisings top with wood chip not tree chippings
