Whadaya reckon? Dead bark falling away on top of the branch, lesion extends around 5 or 6m from attachment to main stem shown in the photo. A sizeable branch, maybe 6 inch diameter. It has partially failed at a small cavity around 2m from base and is resting on a bigget branch below. Some black patches present on the dead bark...

Thousands of Plane trees are being felled on the Canal du Midi- I think thats the one. Southern France leading to Carcasonne according to one of my customers who went there for a holiday.

Encouraged by boaters tying up around the trees and boats damaging the roots spread or encouraged I think by the water.

That's not Massaria disease.

 

It's Ceratocystis platani - canker stain of Plane

Any idea on the uk wide spread? I am sending a sample to Kath Tubby at the FC who seemed interested I spotted this on the Essex / Suffolk border. As far as I'm aware it is a London and Bristol issue, I've certainly not seen it before...

Been found as far apart as Jersey and Darlington from what I've read.
