Your response was disingenuous IMO, you knew full well what he meant and was lining up for another lecture about never giving the customer an idea of how long the job will take.....

I'm sure a very large majority of us have (on occasion) slowed a job down a bit by lengthening a tea break or some other surreptitious means because the price is on the heavy side.

Speak for yourself.

I have spent far more than most on kit and feel no need to justify the time a job takes, as others have said would you expect more if the job over ran???

Just priced a Lawson fell for a client I last worked for 5 years previously.

Then we ran a wee chipper, lacked experience, underpriced the job, ran over but smiled cheerfully regardless.

When I gave the 2016 price (for it would be for January) the client baulked and reminded me of my previous price which was less money for more trees.

So I was honest, told him the 2010 price was erroneous and that the exchange rate had risen from parity to 1.42 and that no man alive shoould work as hard as we did for so little.

The price I offered was correct for todays circumstances.

I didn't get the job but I doubt any-one else will either unless another me from 2010 pops up in the next few months.
