Sounds like its time you had a holiday

Amd how should I budget for that? :confused1:

If you run a business with truck, chipper and 1 groundsman ( which a lot of guys do ) then you should be earning at least!! 300 - 400 a day after expensies per day.

Otherwise you are just digging yourself into a big whole..and will never have business growth.

My mother has been on 800 a month for years working full-time...i earn that usually in 2 days...sometime 1 day.

When i go out and do jobs worth £100 quid now and then by myself i don't complain..because i know there is someone out there struggling much more than myself.

Cloud cuckoo land; regional differences maybe, but day rate here for 3 man team plus chipper etc is £300 - 360. I don't know how they can do it either. Most people are just trying to make a oner a day. That's the most you'll ever make cutting timber btw.

Some of the posts on here smack of entitlement to big rewards; quite arrogant imo.

If its too hard, quit, simples, no one is going to make it easier for you, people are not suddenly going to decide "oh, those wood cutters are having a hard time, lets pay them more", or "lets have a fund raiser...".

A tip for all of you who are worried about how tough it is, try having the rug pulled from under you healthwise, the ability to earn is taken from you just like that! Then try to get yourself going again, but again limited by the pathetic amount your body will let you do before you are too tired to do more. Now run along and be grateful for the one thing that you do have, regardless of wealth, and that is your health and your ability to earn something :001_smile:

Since I started this maybe I should add a bit more. I don't want to stack shelves at tesco, I love working trees, always have and always will. This post was more about the constant worry of if there's going to be enough money to pay the bills at the end of the month. Which i'm sure its not just me worrying about. Currently I have no jobs booked. No Subbie work booked and need to find about £700 for end of month hence my worry, only option will be to start selling my equipment. But then we all know that's a slippery slope. Thanks to everyone who offered there support and words of wisdom

Hi there I really hope things pick up for y soon . Don't ever sell your tools it's the biggist slope you will ever fall down .

I don't know your personal situation but being diverse as to the way you earn your paper will really help you . For myself I have a few strings to my bow I do rope access work as well as tree work so when on side is quiet then I go for the other . The tree work got me into the rope access as most of the geo rope access jobs need a de veg done before the rock work starts so the saw tickets can get y work in rope access as long as y have done your IRATA level 1.

Then from the rope access work I then went in to do other tickets to help make my IRATA ticket more valuable so I got my PTS and confined space ticket and cherry picker , making y more employable .

Sometimes having several strings can really net you more work . This week I was quiet on the rope access side so I am now doing a few days subbing for a little firm on arbtalk it's great fun .

There is a fair bit of work going on hear if u can travle

I wish y all the best

Positive thinking will get you through.

I reckon our standard of living in the West hit a peak maybe five years ago, one which we are unlikely to see ever again, which is good IMO, it was unsustainable anyway.

If you're fed and sheltered, let alone tapping on the net, you're doing alright.

Hello Simon, hope things pick up for you soon........ that means that I'll get more work and I have nothing too haha!

There's a chap just posted in the members area from Huddersfield that's said he's just had to sack one of his staff, it'd defo be worth giving him a ring! Probably shooting myself in the foot here cos I'm in the same boat, no work and skint, but you've got a kid and one on it's way soon so I suppose your need is greater than mine!!

Good luck:001_smile:
