Living the dream eh. This mortgage free idea sounds great but funnily shortly after we became mortgage free, we bought an industrial unit and that was the end of that dream. If you're ambitious, you always push the envelope. Thats the way it is.

Good luck with this. I still think Ben Laws house on grand designs was the best of all.

That's exactly my problem, I am always taking (calculated) risks, I will never change. I will always be skint too, any money I earn goes back into something or other :001_rolleyes:

Hi. Been watching with interest. Generally the pump system whilst sounding great is not that good when you ratio in cost to benefit.

If you are grid connected then there is little payback from the system. Also if you are doing screw in foundations even though those would be removable it would be a major hassle digging the pump pipe network up.

Simple solar panels are spot on. Have a hot water system in too so whilst connected to log burner for winter most days hot water will be available anytime for free. My uncle installed a split level pond as he found a spring which the overflow from his grey water also goes into. He installed a small mill system which adds power to grid too. It's only a low provider but has great credentials and looks fantastic. ( like a small garden feature) i know someone who does prototype mill technology if you were interested.

After browsing I am so tempted to sell up, have a luxury log home built, and still have enough left to be mortgage free.

Search " log cabin homes " for some cracking sites.

Here's good Log Cabins
