Forklift or what other tool

I would like sommat with forward reach, but essentially could probably manage with a small yard forklift, i.e. something that will travel over well consolidated reasonably level hardcore as well as concrete.

I can apparently buy a gas powered 2000 kg capacity Yale with a triple mast for about 2500 to 3000 £'s

I reckon owt diesel is more likely to be knackered, and with low usuage gas should be fine, we cook on the orange propane so I would always have a spare cylinder handy.

Is there any merit in considering the JCB Teletruck, or are they an overpriced gimmick?

PS

for handling log bags mainly, on the other hand sommat rough terrain like an old Sanderson or Manitou could work with logs as well if it had the 3rd service for a grab.

Seen many manitou or sandersons working well. Jcb is pay what you get, they are good machines and easy to work with, could be pricey for what you want it for.

I would look into manituo. Telescopic is definatly more of an advantage just for the extra reach, being able to reach over things or load trailers from one side rather than going round it saves a lot of time, plus they have the option of different attachments on the front, forks, bucket, post hole digger, four in one buckets. Even a pothole bashed can be adapted to fit on the ront.

No comparison really, little forklift with no extra reach only being able to handle a ton at best, or a four wheel drive telescopic with unlimited potential.

I deliberately phrased my question as I did simply because I had started with the notion that I "needed" a Telehandler.

A few seemingly reasonably knowledgable folk locally seemed to reckon that a telehandler in any reasonable nick would be nearer 10k

which I could not justify

Ditto a loader tractor, mostly well knackered at my price point.

So I boiled it down to what was affordable.

AND,

But,

However

What about an Entwhistle, Ex Army rough terrain forklift,

£7500.00 plus vt coul;d buy one with good tyres and low hours.

cheers

A telehandler will be expensive for anything not completely worn out, but what about a mono-boom handler? They were made obsolete with the introduction of the telescopic so are much cheaper. You'll be looking at stuff around 30 years old but no reason why it shouldn't do the trick.

We have a 2001 Manitou 526t which is brilliant, but we also still have an old 4wd Sambron J24s loader which the old man bought new in 1983.

Other things to consider are an old Sanderson SB series or similar rtfl, Collins Teleshift or MF industrials. Early mono-boom JCB Loadalls I think have become collector's items so will be outside your price range.

Big old 2wd rough terrain forklifts can be picked up at farm dispersal & collective sales within your budget and will be more than adequate for what you want to do I imagine...
