There has to be a difference between a contract climber with his own gear coming in when you need him, to guys working 5 days a week on a week in / out basis.

My guys are on £80 per day whether they do a big climb, polesaw a few bits of epicormic, feed the chipper or even sit in the landrover waiting for a shutdown. Sometimes they finish at 2.30, sometimes at 6.00. I would like to pay a bit more, but our contract rates are very tight, and the guys are happy knowing they get £400 a week whatever happens.

shutdowns theres an expriance get on site 7.30 get permit @ 12 up tree for 12.30 s/d cancelled 1pm no cards out three s/d a week 2 cancelled !

I'm currently between years of an ND (working from June 2008 and starting back at college January 2009). I have CS30 and Aerial Rescue as well as UA1. I use all of my own PPE. I'm not a numpty and work hard at work and when studying. I'm being paid £20 and always thought this was unresonable but bit my tounge because firstly I needed the hours for my course and secondly this is such a small industry I didn't want to get labelled as awkward.

Should I make a stand? I obviously can't survive on this wage and have had to move back in with Maw and Paw, so I'm not starving.

How old are you?

£20 a day?!!:confused1: Is that not illegal?? It should be!!!

Are you serious? £20 for a full day's work? I almost can't believe it.

If true, yes, that is illegal - and totally immoral in my opinion. I know there aren't alot of jobs around at the moment, but can't you find anything better than that?

If I were you I would pluck up the courage to have a word with your boss and sort something out.
