But only if they know :sneaky2:

I Like Your Thinking!:sneaky2: A good friend of mine is a traffic cop, he sais that all nicks have the facility to track trackers. however profesional theives make light work of removing them especialy on plant. i've been told that whenever buying a second hand chipper you should ring the manafacturer/ uk agent as they keep records of all tolen chippers etc. wilkie recovered 2 machines the year before last when the new owners phoned up to buy parts, wilkie asked for the serial number & promptly allerrted the police. one of these machines had been fitted with a tracker, the theives removed it on site before stealing the machine!

Two types of tracker as far as I know/was told (info from a big plant hire company I did some work for)

1. Active all the time - as used on fleet vans/hire plant/securicore etc. Bloody expensive.

2. Pasive type tracker - activated on request ie when nicked. About £500 1st year (fitting etc) and £150/year sub.

As said above, easy to find/remove by a pro and neither work in metal containers!

I heard of one thief who stole a top of the range Merc, whizzed it down to his lock-up, located the tracker and removed it. Good going, thought he was safe now. So he locks up his lock-up, and decides after a successful days pilfering that he could do with a swift couple of pints, so thinks it'll be fun to show his buddies what these trackers look like so they know what to look for. Great thinking, Einstein! So he's down the boozer, shows off the tracker, the doors open and in come the police to find the merc parked in the pub!! They DO work!

Their was a mill being developed near us, one Sunday tea time, some guys land with a truck and start loading a £50K excavator. The locals smell a rat and call the plod. They turn up speak to the guys with the truck, and watch them out onto the road and wave bye, bye.

The worker arrive Monday, and ring the police to report the theft of their excavator!!!

When it got into the local press the police would not release the names of the officers concerned and said it was just down to "human error"!!!!! Try putting that on the reply form for your speed camera ticket!!!

Look after you own kit lads, the boy in blue will be more interested in how fast you have been towing your chipper than trying to get it back for you if it gets nicked, IME.

Since we have got on to bashing the police :001_smile:..

A while back I was pulled over by the cops and fined for not wearing my seat belt. Fair enough it is illegal and I broke the law so I got a slap, now there were at least 5 cars and about 12 coppers dotted around within about 100 yards pulling people over. Looking at all the cops I said to the one writing out my ticket (was about the same build as Chief Wigam)

"A lot of you about today"

" Yes we are cracking down and having a ZERO TOLERANCE of not wearing seatbelts." !!!!

Needless to say I didnt respond to that comment or I would have probably ended up in a much worse state than £30 out of pocket!!

Good to see they have there priorities in order.

when our timberwolf was nicked it was taken in for repairs and when they tried to order new parts orange plant contacted us so we informed the police who said they would deal with it

1 week later after much chasing they got round to visiting the repair garage and guess what the damn thing had gone never to be seen again

so next time i will be taking deano with his sas training and guns blazing

Not surprised in the least, IME, and it saddens me to say it, the police are pretty much useless.

I know of a guy who rang the police as his car was being vandalized, they told him they had no officers available, so he should stay inside and observe and take notes.

He rang them back and said "I have a gun and I'm going out to sort it"

Within minuets the police armed response unit were their, the Sargent said "You lied! You said you had a gun!"

He said in reply " You said YOU had no officers!!!"
