Afternoon all...

Speaking to a fellow climber today who was employed, took the jump and is successfull being self employed and loving it. Good for him!

We were saying it didnt seem like 5 min ago he was employed but he said he dont look back now.

I asked him what did he do on his very FIRST day as self employed and he said lots of leaflet drops and advertising to what he could afford...

He said he wrote letters to estates and hotels etc, anybody else done that? any result?

seems to off worked...

so thought id ask the question to you all...

What did you do on your 1st day out there on your own? :thumbup1:

Ha, I did nothing! In finding myself my own boss I very rapidly got promoted not a non-exec role and put my feet up.

That couldn't last forever so think it was about day 3 I knuckled down and did some work....

Lots of phone calls to heaps of landowners asking if they had any work got a few nibbles from that, then got lucky with some work and underbid hugely for it did it with a smile on my face and have now got my rates sorted...well kinda

Started making contacts to find work. It's really the make or break factor for a free-lancer and I owe Arbtalk and the forum members a huge 'Thank you' for the breaks I have got. I owe particular thanks to Arbogrunt, Basil and Geoff for giving me a try and telling other people about what I can do. Thanks guys! :001_smile:

Selecting and felling bent chestnut for a cruck frame building. Milled it after.

It's the frame for one of The Greenwood Trust's buildings.

That was, unbelievably, twenty five years ago this month.

ringed up a load of leylandii that had been felled and left for firewood, the owner had the intention of doing it himself but quickly realised how much work was involved! Was about a weeks work just ringing up, my second hand Husky 365 paid for itself easily on that job alone.

Line thinning some really hairy sitka on a steep valley side on one of the local estates. Had line the work up few weeks earlier while I was still employed. Finished the old job on the friday and was on my own job on Monday.
