Hi guys,

 

Im a gardener looking to move into full time tree surgery.

 

I have my CS30 and 31.

 

I have a couple of days booked with a tree firm and have not yet negotiated a day rate.

 

What sort of money is it reasonable to ask for in my position?

You are not in a position yet to set your own fees, take what your offered.

Self employed with own saw, insurance, PPE, we supply the t'shirt, fuel and lunch.

100-120euros per day gross.

IF your a grafter and have serious previous arb experience 150euros.

Its a day rate whether we work 8 or 12 hours or even away from home for a few days.

The problem with subbies is that they often over value their worth.

It is not they who generate the work and carry the daily can.

They can sleep easy after the day is done.

Bosses have got quotes and maintenance to do.

My advice is; Remember your in the game to make money, not play ! you have your overheads like everyone. decide what the minimum rate you can do and use this as a starting negotiation point !

Hah,

Yes, I offer money that is fair and covers overheads for a self employed labourer but personal overheads for example like a big fat ex-wife and 4 kids to maintain are nothing to do with an employer or his pay rate.

I only say this because I've not long had this conversation with a rejected candidate.

ive just had the same conversation TY

 

guy who i use occasionally wants to come full time on the books

 

when asked how much an hour he'd want, his reply was

 

"well i've got a big mortgage, and the car payments are fairly high. i'd need around £20 per hour"

 

after ten minutes of laughter i told him if he found someone willing to pay an inexperienced groundie £20 per hour, to give me a ring. i'd be a groundie for that, never mind that there climbing mallarky...

Down here in cornwall I have been earning between £50 - £70 a day.
