One reason I use Aspen

The last two times I bought it (Derbyshire and Lincolnshire), the dealers both commented/joked about the price and asked exactly why I was buying it.

It's absolutely perfect for my needs since I can easily go a month without using fuel (apart from transport), and I don't like ditching petrol (or anything come to that!).

I really do think that people like me are a better bet for Aspen though. It may even work out cheaper (I can't be bothered to do the maths) than using/ditching regular fuel. Plus potential damage from old fuel, plus idiot-proofness, plus no hassle/measuring/mixing.

Surely focusing on the consumer-friendliness of the stuff and marketing to Jo-Schmoe is the way to go, no?

Joe Schmoe, with his Spear and Jackson special probably isn't going to go looking for fuel in the local Stihl/Echo/whatever dealership though...

It's back to the B&Q problem then.

I have just done a bit of googling on the subject of price.

Husqvarna sell genuine Aspen in europe. their 5litre cans seem to be retailing at 22 euros in France

Stihls motomix appears to at 22 euros in germany

And our Aspen is 21 euros here.

Found that interesting. Of course the prices may be a little out of date on the first two.

In Sweden, where Alkylate fuel carries reduced fuel duty, the current retail price for a 25 litre canister is SEK 620, which equates to €14.8 for 5 litres (ref Alkylatbensin Aspen 2-takt 25 l)

Alkylate 2T fuel is also available at the pump at OKQ8 stations around Sweden at a current price of SEK 18.25, which converts to €11 for 5 litres.

As far as I know, the alkylate fuel supplied by OKQ8 is NOT from the Aspen refineries, but possibly from Statoil (Norwegian).

(ref OK/Q8 2T Alkylate)

This goes to prove, that with market demand (volume) and reduced duties, the price may get down to reasonable levels (£1.90/litre)

I don't know how much of the total end-user cost are duties in Nordic countries. In GB, 78% of any gas or liquid fuel is duty. The nice people in government can then fiddle their accounts and claim for thing they don't own or need.

If you want to enjoy life, work in the woods. If you want to enjoy the good life but be stuck in an office, work in government.

I do not think Aspen fuel exists where I reside! (Aberdeenshire) I have asked a few tree cutters and grass maintenance crews what their thoughts on it are and so far the response is

"Never heard of it mate, you sure you were nae on the sauce last night and dreaming again" :D

I do not see a demand never mind the supply.

I myself did not know of its existence until reading Arbtalk. I love the sound of the health benefits and possible extra mileage but I am very concerned about the cost of ownership! Given that the supply chain is not in place I will not waste any more time thinking about it :) Interesting to know about though. Many thanks.

@Nepia - Jon, where have you found Aspen locally? I went to Honey Bros yesterday and despite being named on the Aspen site it's not something they stock?

Hi I have spoken to Honey Bros and they are thinking about restocking with Aspen. I have changed the Listing on our dealer map to say "Phone to check stock" Please let me know if dealers we list on our map don't have stock so I can contact them.

The more people ask for Aspen the more chance of dealers stocking it.

Thanks and please keep me informed
