Just bought a fs 490 and was running it on aspen from the off, what I noticed was that it was sluggish on pick up after a couple of days I forgot the tub of aspen so had to put pump fuel in it after a couple of tanks the pick up was fine any thoughts?

Various fuels have various specific gravity (density).

Aspen is slightly different to petrol in that respect and may just need a very slight adjustment to the low speed screw on the carb.

This is the screw marked 'L' and may need turning out (counter clockwise) by about 1/8 of a turn.

Try this and the pick up should be improved. You should then not have to alter this back for petrol.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi thanks for the reply but is the fs490 m tronic?

I've been using Aspen in my 135 and now it's run through a couple of tanks I find it bogs a bit when it's warmed up and needs the fast idle on restarts where I had it so it would fire and tick over on petrol mix so I will have to tune it next time I use it.

Err, yes. I missed that.

Being M tronic it should tune itself to any fuel, so I cannot understand the problem you have.

How severe is the bogging down?

What I do understand though, is that any engine will run happily with Aspen, it is after all, a purer product than petrol.

I did some fact-finding whilst in Sweden last week, asking sellers, and users their opinions of Aspen. These guys use way more than we do and report no problems.

I also have the fs 460 which has only been run on pump fuel that is fine , but the 490 would just bog down for the first couple of seconds when pulling the trigger in , I know a couple of seconds is not a lot but when in the forest its a pain I will say when running on aspen once it was at the right revs blipping the throttle it responded alot better than the 460

Hi Andy,

As has already been said Aspen is a different fuel and so sometimes needs a carb tune to get the best from running Aspen.

With the auto tune Saws do they have a set up procedure to reset them?

If so this might get it running 100% right on Aspen.

Please contact direct me if your Saws are still not running as you would like on Aspen.
