Mates saw!!

Had my mate helping today. He's got an old stihl 044 with 20" bar. I ended up leaving him to chop while I loaded! Couldn't believe how fast it cut. My 230 may as well have been a handsaw compared to his! Anyone got something similar for sale? Even if it need work.

an 044 is a 70 cc saw bud, i used to have one... but ended up selling it for a stihl ms 361 never listen to others i shouldn't

closest now is a 441, but a 460 is a better saw.

 

even then, a 660 is an animal with a 20" bar!

The amount of discs you can cut on one tank of fuel with a 660 and a 20" bar always amazes me!

46 is a great allrounder and with a 66 close at hand you'll be sorted! I'm sure there are others but they are all good for me.

What else might be different? What chain is he using? Maybe his sharpening technique is different?

In your original post, you compare an 044 to a 230, do you mean a stihl ms230??

If you've got anything bigger than a 18" on then yes it would but if your using a smaller bar fitting a bigger one would slow you down that's assuming that your bar is dressed and your chain is sharp. What size wood are you cutting and how much are you cutting it may save you money in the long run to buy a bit bigger saw.

Yes an ms230. Is there a better chain than the standard fitted item? All I do is cut felled stuff for logging. I've just bought a new box of files and one of those tools you clamp to the bar. Any advice on sharpening?
