Kevin,

re CE marking - didn't mean selling as a kit, just tested with a friction hitch and micropulley/hitchclimber as you would use it on a single line.

What Peter quoted probably cover things from an EU directive point of view?

directive 89/686/EEC on Personal Protective Equipment

3.4

Equipment for climbing, rock climbing, speleology etc. (ice-axes, hammers, descenders not fitted with a built-in speed-regulating system, rope-climbing equipment, etc.)

Category 0 (ie not PPE)

Scotspine, are you by chance Grover on the buzz? ;) seems we have been thru this already eh?

the wrench is not PPE, the biners, pulley and hitch, tied from rated cordage to a rated bridge on a rated saddle are :) are those wood beads people put above their hitch DdRT PPE? nope, but lots use them.

it is simply an aid for climbing that reduces friction on the single line so you can climb on it. It is actually a teeny tiny DdRT system self contained.

So IMO? it need not be rated as PPE, you could beat a bear to death with it, it is sturdy.

The only problem I can see is that a rope wrench allows you to use system that's not designed to work srt in srt. A hitch surely on its own is not rated to work in a srt config as it is unable to take 100% of the load without binding, a rope wrench buffers the load creating a kind of mini drt system without actually being load bearing.

Evolution has to start somewhere and the principal of the rw is sound so we should go for it as it can only be a positive thing for us all.

What is needed is for the system as a whole to get ce rated, much like the ce climb by the treemagineers/tefalburger as it's the whole system together that is also important is it not?

If your'e hanging your hanging your body off something then it's classed as PPE. if it's not rated as PPE then use something that is.

maybe over in the UK, not here, I'm the owner of my bizz, the lead climber, so yeah, I call the shots ;) and the shot I call 99.9% of the time is the rope wrench :) My base tie is lower-able from the ground so even if a RW malfunctioned and the hitch seized, i could get out man, plus i always have an "8" on my saddle as well.

CE certification costs a lot of money.

Indeed, the treemagineers/teufelburger partnership had the financial means to get ce approval.

The rw needs us on its side to give it mass appeal and success I,d happily use one and I know my loler inspector would have no problem in deeming it fit for its intended use. I,m sure most of us can see logically that if applied correctly it is not ppe and is safe to use.
