Best gloves for Hawthorne

I couldn't find many places stocking the Ripeur 2 gloves. Are any arborist companies supplying them?

good to see link re thorn infection will have a read. do not take any chances now i got a blackthorn stab me in face. for a week i had a swollen face and on strong antibiotics, that was due to wearing a chainsaw helmet. got jammed in ear defenders and flicked into face so helmet does not get used now when laying hedges. found the best hat a aigle flat cap with ear muffs never get anything in my head. draw back if a big head need to cut back to make bigger but a small price for a decent hedging hat i had a look around and the link digga put up look the best place and price is good. but do not no of any arb shops selling them.

Had a blackthorn tip go into my left index finger just above the knuckle. Thought I'd dug it out but I had a hard swelling there for years. It started to actually distort and twist my finger. Every time I knocked it it hurt like buggery. After about ten years I had the doctor look at it an he diagnosed and Ganglion which the surgeons had to cut out. Couldn't find any tip of the blackthorn in there but it can still have consequences.

I've probably told this before but here goes:001_smile: As a kid I remember my dad being in a really bad way. He had a thorn in his hand and it became so bad that the doctors were talking of amputation.. He had six months of pain and being unable to sleep. Then it just cleared up! At that time he'd being laying hedges for forty years, with hands that you could take a rasp to, and never a problem.

Interesting point how wearing safety gear (eg, like with your chainsaw helmet) can sometimes cause a hazard.

 

I've got one of those flat caps (bought it for a vintage event!) but haven't thought of using it on the farm.

 

I quite often wear a buff though, which helps keep hair from getting tangled in brashy things.

 

Not sure why the arborist suppliers aren't stocking those Ripeur 2 gloves, is there not an arborist spec equivalent glove.... bright orange with fancy stripes or something!

Yep, i know they are available, have already ordered a pair and they should land tomorrow. But i didn't find many places stocking them.

All I can say so far is that the colour is referred to as.... "sand".
