I can only speak from my own experience mate (please see my signature):001_smile:

Since getting my mac I have had hassle free use, no more screen freezing or "program X will not respond, please restart"

I turn it on and it just starts, unlike the microsoft laptops I've had that took ages to get going.

I find using this mac a totally relaxing experience, unlike my previous 3 laptops which used to drive me up the wall.

Another Apple sucker! Its in our heads apparently

with a mac, you choose what programs you start.

with windows they all startup on boot to save time:blushing:

so if you know how to sort out your boot sequence, and only use limited start up programs, you can get it down to a 20secs boot, 30secs off.

so its possible to run any windows machine at light speed.

And thats the truth.

There is nothing wrong with windows. Common sense and a little knowledge makes a happy windows user.

A bit like a land-rover then?

It'll run ok, as long as you keep fiddling with it and are prepared to keep jumping through hoops and can afford loads of down-time:lol::lol:

And this is the experience of most apple users. :001_cool:

However there is soooooo much BS about apples out there too.:001_smile:

You know I despise these machines, more for the whole hypocritical/ atrocious ethos of that company than anything else.:001_cool:

For those who are interested in AV for Mac, Sophos provide it free, however whilst Sophos is one of the best, like most other AV software its signature based so reliant on updates and no AV program will detect all of the 200,000 or so x86 viruses & variants that infect PCs.

IMO the reason to install AV on a Mac is so you dont unintentionally pass on virus infected e-mail to your PC using friends.

A slightly different approach to security would be to use MacScan to scan for hostile cookies - but you can set FireFox to dump all cookies on exit, use the NoScript add on in your FireFox browser and/or use 'Little Snitch' to limit outgoing connections.

Ultimately no computer connected to the internet can be fully secured but utilities like these will make it much more secure.
